Music and art teachers in the East Meadow Union Free School District recently participated in the Balanced Mind Curriculum Conference, a high-quality professional development conference for arts educators. The three main focuses of the conference were to enhance content knowledge and teaching skill, promote a culture of professional inquiry and address common core connections. Teachers from around the Island presented workshops in the areas of art, dance, music, and theater at Molloy College.

The day began with an inspirational presentation from Dr. John E. Bierwirth, a former Superintendent of Schools and advocate of the arts. Hands on workshops, activities and performances were also conducted throughout the day.

Several talented East Meadow music teachers served as guest clinicians at the Balanced Mind Curriculum Conference.  Adrianna Schaefer from Woodland Middle School, Gregory Krajci from W.T. Clarke High School, Meegan Coleman from Barnum Woods Elementary School, and Caitlin Hale and Gregory Sisco from East Meadow High School shared their knowledge and talents with colleagues through various workshops and presentations.

This year’s conference was an exceptional experience for all who attended. The district thanks the Balanced Mind Curriculum Conference organizers and the East Meadow educators who contributed to the event.
