Approximately 160 students in the East Meadow School District passed Microsoft Office Specialist and/or Expert exams to become certified in one or more of the Microsoft Office Suite programs.

Among the group were two students who passed all of the main specialty exams, in addition to the Word and Excel Expert tests. Debra Perlman, a 2018 graduate of W.T. Clarke High School, and rising East Meadow High School senior, Anusha Arora, are the first two students in district history to earn this impressive achievement.

In addition, East Meadow High School graduate Aliandro Goncalves merited special honors for his performance. With an exceptionally high score on the PowerPoint 2016 Specialist Exam, Goncalves was named New York’s champion and selected to compete in Certiport’s 2018 Microsoft Office Specialist, U.S. National Championship.

Students from both of the district’s high schools who are enrolled in either one, or both of the business department’s LIU High School Scholars program and Multimedia IV and Computer Literacy classes are afforded the opportunity to take the exams. The exams cover Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access, as well as Expert exams in Word and Excel.

With the certification, these students have earned global validation of their knowledge, skills and abilities in the Microsoft Office Suite. Providing this opportunity is just one of the ways East Meadow’s business department equips students with cutting-edge skills for an exceedingly competitive marketplace.  To this end, East Meadow students leave being college and career ready.

The district is extremely proud of these students and their accomplishments!
