Teachers, parents, and students in the district connected over the book, “Fish in a Tree,” during the #EMeadowReads Twitter chat on the morning of June 2 at 9AM. Joining them was the author of the book, Lynda Mullaly-Hunt.

The theme of the event, “One Book, One East Meadow” was organized by Parkway Elementary School Principal Jamie Mack and Director of Literacy Frank Lukasik. The online forum allowed people inside and outside of the district to log in from anywhere, and on any device to discuss the novel. No one was required to read the book, but the interest was very high. During the chat, Mr. Lukasik posed six questions challenging the participants to reflect on the book and how certain events have parallels to their personal lives. Mullaly-Hunt is a New York Times bestselling author who joined the chat as well and answered questions from those in the district.

The 60-minute session was the second edition of the #EMeadowReads forum that brings together administrators, teachers, parents, students and authors to discuss a piece of literature that is accessible to students of all ages.
