Seventh-grader Katherine Qi of W.T. Clarke Middle School has been selected as a United States Delegation representative for the 2017 World Youth Chess Championship in the girls under 14 section. She will compete in Montevideo, Uruguay from Sept. 16-26.

According to its website, the nonprofit U.S. Chess Federation is the official governing body for chess players and chess supporters in America. Their mission is to empower people through chess and enrich the lives of all persons and communities through increasing the play, study and appreciation of the game.

The district congratulates Katherine on being selected to represent the U.S. and wishes her much success at this prestigious competition.
