W.T. Clarke Middle School eighth-grader Lauren Galarraga won the Design-a-Card contest, run by the Long Island chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, in the middle school category.

According to its website, the AATSP promotes the study and teaching of the Spanish and Portuguese languages and their corresponding Hispanic, Luso-Brazilian, and other related literatures and cultures at all educational levels.

The Design-a-Card contest gives students an opportunity to create an original Hispanic design for the front of a blank notecard. The winning entries will be printed and sold as a fundraiser to support the Long Island chapter’s Judy Abrams/Margaret Fernández National Spanish Examination Scholarship Fund.

The district congratulates Lauren for demonstrating her support of the community through her artistic talents.
